700 Attend Florida THIRST Conference

Subscribe

I am writing from Florida, where Sue and I are with our Revival Conference Team, attending one of our four-day THIRST conferences being hosted by Cornerstone Church just outside Orlando. Some 700 individuals have been filling the auditorium every service, and today around 200 women attended the Seeking Him, Together ladies' luncheon.

But the great response numerically from this church is of disinterest to those who are having their dry and thirsty souls refreshed by God’s presence. To a heart being touched by God, nothing else really matters. When you sense God’s amazing presence, everything else fades in comparison.

The consensus at this church is that if God can be real in my life, actively speaking to me, teaching me, directing my steps, helping me with decisions, enabling me to walk in power and peace and overflowing joy, and pouring spiritual riches of His forgiveness, grace, mercy, love, justice, and hope into my soul, then who cares about the numbers in attendance? If you know God is manifesting His presence, doesn’t everything else diminish in importance?

That is precisely why my wife and I were captivated on January 29, 1973, on our honeymoon. Yes, as a young man I was captivated by the gift of our physical relationship as we slept in our first waterbed that night. (No more on that event!)

But an even more remarkable and captivating event occurred earlier that evening as we walked into our very first Life Action service. I know it sounds crazy, but on the third night of our honeymoon, Sue and I visited a Life Action summit in Mankato, MN. Not because we were spiritual, but because we wanted to visit some friends who were a part of this unfamiliar organization.

We were hooked. Something about the overwhelming sense of God’s presence that night was magnetic. Like the woman at the well, we sensed that there was “living water” nearby. And we were thirsty. Thirsty for something that was even more satisfying than the joy of sacred sex. Thirsty for something that would bring a lifelong sense of purpose and mission. Thirsty for Jesus.

The introduction to Life Action that night put us on a journey. A journey that has continually amazed us to this very night. What we tasted only created more hunger pains. And more. And more. Finally, three years later, I trusted Christ to redeem me from sin. And from that day on, we have been proclaiming the message of revival through Life Action in North America and beyond.

It is utterly amazing, as Sue and I sit in a Life Action service tonight in FL, to realize that another team is in Mansfield, LA (I got a text message a short while ago announcing a major breakthrough); another team is in El Dorado, AR; a daily radio program is being heard around the world; another ministry team is headed for Dartmouth College; a camp is preparing for a marriage weekend; a beautiful lodge ministry is preparing for a pastors’ retreat; and a myriad of electronic and print publications are being picked up and read by thirsty souls. And we get to be a part of this?!

Though it's doubtful that any of those engaging with our ministry outreaches tonight are on their honeymoon, thousands of them are quenching their thirst through a powerful encounter with Jesus. And who knows how many will begin a magnificent journey like ours!
