Praying for my children the way I have been outlining in this series of blogs often convicts me to ask the simple question, “Am I expecting more of them than is true of me?” In no area is that more real than the #3 and #4 daily requests for my kids.
Last week we looked at the “F” in F.A.M.I.L.Y. I commented on how I pray that they would be both faithful and fruitful in their walk with the Lord.
When I come to the letter “A,” I ask the Lord to do two more things: enable them to be Active in sharing their faith and Anointed as they do.
I grew up in an environment where we scheduled times to go “soul winning.” I had memorized the verse “he that wins souls is wise” (Proverbs 11:30) and repeated it often. Today, I am not negative on having a disciplined and orderly lifestyle where sharing one’s faith is structured. But allowing the Lord to make it a 24/7 burden, to look for opportunities to share and ask for His power and anointing, is what I want for my life and for my kids. So I pray daily for it!
Hang on . . . What you are about to read is extraordinary.
I received the following e-mail yesterday from a friend who is passionate about sharing his faith and longs for God’s power as he does. Why would I want my children to be active in sharing their faith? Because every time we experience what this gentleman did, our own faith in God’s power not only increases, it brings vivid reminders of the amazing redemptive work of God to rescue lost souls.
The Lord was at work yesterday! I was listening to your revival tapes as I drove to Orlando to have a lunch meeting. At the meeting, the Spirit of God was working. I felt His presence in a strong way. I invited another Christian business guy to join me for a meeting with a successful young (37) business guy who lives in Orlando. We both shared our testimonies with this guy.
I started sharing about how my marriage was on the rocks in London and how the Lord turned the situation around. The guy starts sniffling, I start probing, and before you know it, he is sharing how he has never been to a church, knows nothing about all of this “religious” stuff, other than he has a “Christian friend” who is on his third marriage and addicted to drugs. He breaks down and shares that he has been cheating on his wife with another gal for over 2 years.
Long story (we spent five hours together) short, we go back to this guy’s office, and he gets on his knees and we laid hands on him and prayed over him, and he begins balling as he starts confessing and asking God for forgiveness and that he has made a mess of his life and wants God to take over! I then told him to call his girlfriend and tell her that he sinned against God, her, and his wife, and that he was going to fight for his marriage. He did!
Then we had him cancel his business trip to Aspen next week, and I took him to his house, and he confessed to his wife and told her that he is a “new creation” and has become a Christian! :) Turns out, his wife started going to church a few weeks ago at the suggestion of one of her friends. This is all too wild to even describe in an e-mail. Turns out the other guy has a Bible study at his office on Thursdays, so the guy goes this morning and guess who he brings with him . . . the Christian backslider friend! The group comes alongside them this morning and everyone is blown away. This guy was reborn in such a radical way he didn’t even know what hit him. We started reading scriptures together, had him read aloud, and he couldn’t stop! Crazy stuff. There is a revival taking place. We are all blown away by seeing the providence of God in intercepting this guy and saving his marriage and life. To God be all the glory!!
Can you think of anything more exciting than having children who get to experience God at work like this? The miracle of participating in the spiritual birth process and then nurturing those babes in Christ is more valuable than all the riches in the world!
Oh Lord, we pray for our kids today, that they would have a vision for sharing their faith, and when they do share it, would You please anoint, empower, and show Your supernatural redeeming grace and forgiveness? What greater blessing and joy could ever come their way?
