The list reads like a modern-day soap opera: a parent's adultery, haunting doubt, a spouse's string of affairs, addictions, womanizing, loneliness, depression, bitterness, spouse abuse, divorce, failing in leadership, mental and emotional abuse, failure to meet personal responsibilities, lust, temptation, unforgiving spirit, marriage and family out of control, victimization by murder . . .
The above isn't the product of some secular writer's keyboard; it's a list of genuine, specific concerns written down for one of our teams recently as they opened a summit . . . in a church that's probably a lot like many of ours.

I was seeking the Lord, and Clint was occasionally visiting church on Sunday mornings. Clint hunted and worked, and I raised the kids. We communicated very little . . . just the bare minimum. I took the kids to church. Most attempts to reconnect our family quickly became arguments. We truly lived separate lives. He did his thing. The kids and I did ours. My heart was tough . . . not much tenderness toward Clint.

Dear Ministry Friends,
For me, staying focused on the right things can be a battle. I struggle with distractions.
I list my priorities. I start my day. I stay busy. I get sidetracked. I end my day. I forgot I had a list.
Staying focused can be tough when life is pulling us in many different directions. Yet I do better staying focused in my daily work than in my daily perspective. In the midst of all that is happening in our nation, especially economically, don’t you find it tough to keep God’s perspective?

Why would a person who has never come to salvation through Christ bother to keep up the outward appearance of being a Christian? Why would such an individual serve as a Sunday school teacher, deacon, pastor, or pastor’s wife?
