Life Action

30th Anniversary

History proves that the kingdom of heaven advances most dramatically in times of revival. When believers and churches are full of God, large numbers of unbelievers are converted and society is transformed. This kind of nation-wide revival has happened three times in America’s history. And God has called Life Action Ministries to act as catalysts for revival until it comes. This issue of Spirit of Revival magazine is all about the process and impact of revival.

On the seventh of October (1973), the Life Action crusade team--then from St. Petersburg, Florida--arrived at Thomas Road (Baptist Church) for a scheduled week-long evangelistic crusade. Under the direction of Del Fehsenfeld Jr., this unique group of young adults began sharing a message of revival with our people. At first the meeting began slowly, but not without significant blessings. On the first night, Del preached an outstanding sermon: "Phony Baloney Christians." Over 50 people were saved that night, including many professing Christians. On Monday morning, during the chapel service for the Lynchburg Baptist College (now Liberty University), one of Life ...

Jesus' Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7) clearly reveals the essential elements for personal revival. If you will live in light of these truths, you can experience daily, continuous revival. To fail to heed Christ's words will lead to fruitlessness and despair.

Carefully read each Scripture and search your heart in the light of Christ's words, that they might bring you to greater repentance and a hunger to be conformed to the image of Christ. As you proceed, circle the areas of greatest need and seek God for cleansing and revival.

What is important to you? Perhaps several things are--your family, financial security, knowing God and pleasing Him, your health, your vocation, friends . . .
What is most important to you? This must be a singular answer. No lists. Only one item. It's a much more difficult question to answer, and it is exactly that question that changed Dr. Fay Boozman's life. Fay explains that prior to November 1987 his profession was the most important thing to him. Fay was an eye surgeon. Ten years earlier he, along with his brother and brother-in-law, had opened an ophthalmology practice in Rogers, Arkansas ...

"Revival is not just an emotional touch; it's a complete takeover!" That's how one woman describes the revival that took place in her church several years ago. What does such a "takeover" look like? If revival were to come to the church in our day, what would be changed? And what about our lives would never be the same? I believe revival in our day would contain many of the same distinguishing earmarks that we read about when the Spirit of God was first poured out on believers on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:42-47). 1. There ...

"No Pizza. No Party. No Pop. Just a lot of prayer and a lot of power." Who would have anticipated that this simple slogan promoting a prayer meeting for teenagers would lead to the birth of what is now our nation's largest revival ministry?
God heard and answered the prayers of those young people and their youth director, Del Fehsenfeld Jr. It was during one of those Saturday night prayer meetings that Del first sensed God calling him to leave the youth ministry and begin a nationwide ministry of revival. The year was 1971. The result was Life Action ...

A Call to Repentance in the Church We have come together to cry out to God on behalf of our nation. In setting aside these days, we are acknowledging that there are no human solutions to the tidal wave of evil in our land, and that nothing short of divine intervention can overcome the darkness and the lostness of our world. But I believe we need to remind ourselves at the outset of this gathering, that there are some prayers God will not hear; there are some solemn assemblies He will not attend; there are some fasts that are not ...

Dean's annual income as a golf equipment salesman surpassed $300,000, all four of their cars were less than a year old, and their home was large and beautiful. They appeared successful, content, and happy. Sadly, the happiness was a facade, for the Faucetts were hiding several dark secrets from one another. Just beneath the attractive surface was an ugly, tangled mess of lies, guilt, and suspicion that threatened to boil over at any moment. But sometimes it's a good thing when these matters work their way to the surface. Exposed lies can be corrected; hidden ones cannot ...

I wonder what people must have thought when news first began to filter out about the rising new star. Virtually overnight, he had emerged out of nowhere to become the hottest young communicator in the entire region. A rough outdoorsman with a forthright message, this unorthodox, unrefined maverick refused to let anybody pull his strings. In fact, he seemed utterly oblivious to cultural expectations and norms, and was apparently unconcerned about the effect that his eccentric "image" might have on his ratings. Yet, though both his lifestyle and his message seemed to run counterclockwise, people went out of their way ...

Fire from Heaven

It had been an exhausting day. The hot sun beat down on the parched earth. The crowd had sat under the cloudless sky for what seemed like an eternity--silent spectators in this play-off between Baal and Jehovah. Jehovah's side was hopelessly outnumbered--the odds, 850 to 1 in favor of Baal. Silently they watched and waited and wondered, as the prophets of Baal tried first one tactic and then another to persuade the god of lightning and fire to prove himself and send fire from heaven. They pled, they appealed. Unsuccessful, they began to cry out more earnestly, to cajole ...

During those times of spiritual apathy and darkness, the Holy Spirit would quietly stir in the heart of an individual or in the hearts of a small group of people. He would call them to prayer. The brightness of the glory of God would begin to dispel the darkness in the days that followed. Mighty preachers would be raised out of nowhere. The Word of God would thunder forth in mighty power. Souls would be set aflame for the glory of God. Prayer initiated revival, and revival initiated prayer. An apparent correlation exists between a movement of prayer and spiritual ...
